At Eerde, learning goes far beyond the classroom. Alongside our broad and rich curriculum, primary students enjoy a full calendar of activities that make every year at Eerde special. From Sinterklaas and our Christmas play to the cardboard boat race, Halloween, International Week and Week Without Walls, there is always something exciting happening, whether it is a festive celebration, a hands on challenge or a fun tradition that the whole primary community looks forward to together. These moments help our students grow, make friends and create memories that stay with them long after the school year ends.
Once a year, before the autumn break, our primary students take part in Week Without Walls, a week of learning that moves outside the classroom and off campus.
The programme is built around that term's IPC topic, combining educational visits, such as a museum focused on historical houses, with a fun outing like a trip to the zoo. It gives students the chance to explore their topic in a hands on way, connecting what they learn in the classroom with real places and real experiences.

With a castle like ours, how can we not do something with that during Halloween!
Where our primary students are invited to dress up in Halloween style, our secondary IB students make it a competition to make our haunted castle during Halloween scarier each year!

For our primary students we will have fun activities like pumpkin carving, trick or treating, and eating scary food. But since last year they have also enjoyed the haunted castle of secondary, of course they enjoy the light version of the haunted castle. ;-)

One very special celebration in December that is celebrated at Eerde every year, is the Dutch traditional celebration of Sinterklaas, who visits our Primary students every December the 5th.
Kids are waiting enthusiastically for this celebration, involving a lot of preparations from them, too – they write letters and send letters with drawings to Sinterklaas already 3 weeks before he visits us. They learn various songs which they will sing for him when he arrives, both in English and Dutch language.

Every year, our Primary students take to the stage for our much-loved Christmas Play.
Families are treated to an hour of singing, acting and dancing as our students perform a classic Christmas musical, such as Scrooge or The Twelve Days of Christmas. Rehearsals take place during our Friday after school activity programme, which runs until 2.00 PM, where drama lessons give our budding actors and performers the perfect space to develop their skills and prepare for the big day. After the performance, everyone is invited to stay and enjoy a Christmas high tea or brunch together, making it a wonderful occasion for students, parents and teachers to celebrate the festive season before the Christmas break.
