Continuing our 'Deep Blue Sea' theme this week, we made portholes and decorated these with all the sea creatures we have learnt about this term. We wrote some fantastic riddles about our chosen sea creature - I wonder if you can guess what it is?! We were lucky enough to have a special visitor on Thursday afternoon to teach us some yoga movements to finish off our unit of work on yoga. Have a wonderful half term!
This week we have been investigating which materials float and which sink. We have also started to create a pirate treasure map, showing our mapping skills by using a key and symbols. We continue to enjoy our yoga lessons and are really good at creating a yoga flow.
This week we have been looking at our new theme, 'In the Deep Blue Sea'. We read the story, 'Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs' and created fantatsic story maps to help us retell the story. We've enjoyed taking part in lots of pirate themed activities including junk modelling and lego building.
We have really enjoyed learning all about what it takes to go on an expedition to the South Pole this week. We have used lots of resources to write interesting fact files, created useful equipment to use on our trip and even seen the Southern lights which inspired some fantastic art work.
This week we have begun our new topic 'Antarctica' - we look forward to learning lots about this amazing continent as Antarctic Explorers! We have also begun learning about multiplication in Maths lessons and have used arrays and repeated addition to solve problems.
We hope you all had a fun Christmas break. It has been really lovely to welcome the children back to class and many thanks for all the junk modelling donations. This week we have been talking about all things Winter; the weather, clothing, plants and animals and length of the day. On Friday we made bird feeders and have hung them around the KS1 playgrounds - hopefully we will have lots of little visitors!
