In Week 1, we began our persuasive writing unit with a fun twist — our chairs went on strike!
Without their chairs, students had to write persuasive letters to convince them to come back, using strong arguments and persuasive language. It was a creative way to get everyone thinking about how to persuade — and to appreciate our chairs a little more!
In Week 2, we continued exploring persuasive writing with a fun round robin activity. We had five different topics, and each group spent six minutes on each one, adding their own for and against arguments.
It was a great way for everyone to share ideas, think critically, and see both sides of an argument. The discussions were lively, thoughtful, and full of great persuasive points!
We’ve kicked off Term 4 by focusing on problem solving and teamwork. Students have taken on a range of challenges that encouraged them to think creatively, listen to others, and work together to find solutions.
This term, we started our money unit, building on our work with fractions and decimals from Term 3. In Weeks 3 and 4, we explored making a budget. Students used the Woolworths catalogue to create a shopping list of essential items, then extended the activity by comparing the same items in the Coles catalogue to see which store was cheaper.
This term, Year 4’s CBL topic is all about the environment, and for the first four weeks we’ve been focusing on the water cycle.
Students began by researching and drawing diagrams to understand how the water cycle works. Then they became real scientists by creating their own water cycles in zip-lock bags and experimenting with salt water versus plain water to see how it behaves differently.
It’s been exciting to see the children exploring, hypothesising, and observing like true scientists!
Very excitingly, the Premier’s Reading Challenge certificates have arrived! Congratulations to all students who participated and received an award.
It’s wonderful to see so many children enjoying reading, and they should be very proud of their efforts. A special shout-out to 4F, as every single student received an award for completing the challenge – an amazing achievement!
Happy reading!
Sport is back in full swing in Year 4, and this term we are focusing on our school value of teamwork.
Students are working in groups and partners to achieve shared goals, learning how to communicate, cooperate, and support each other. It’s been fantastic to see them putting teamwork into practice both on and off the field!
The pictures below show some of the fun in action: Memory Tag, Volcanoes vs Ice Creams and Partner Ladders.
