📚 Grade 4 Reading Update
In the past two weeks, our Grade 4 readers have been learning how to find the important parts of a text and write summaries. We’ve been sorting through details like little detectives, deciding what really matters, and using those key points to create clear, short summaries. We also finished reading our realistic fiction novel Storm Boy, which gave us lots of exciting details to practice our summarizing skills. Ask your child to tell you the “short version” of the story – you might be surprised at how well they can capture the main ideas!
✏️ Grade 4 Writing Update
In writing, our Grade 4 students have been busy planning and creating their realistic fiction stories. We’ve been using graphic organisers to plan descriptive details, practising sizzling starts to grab the reader’s attention, and crafting engaging problems with strong verbs and precise adjectives to build tension. We’ve also focused on exciting endings and revising our work for grammar, punctuation, and rich language so our stories are polished and full of suspense. It’s been wonderful to see students bring their ideas to life and create stories that really hook the reader!
In numeracy, our Grade 4 students have been exploring decimals, mass, and capacity. We’ve been using number lines to understand decimals to tenths and hundredths, helping students see how they are made up of 10 or 100 equal parts. We’ve also been estimating and measuring mass with everyday items like milk cartons and packets of flour, and learning about capacity by measuring fluids in millilitres and litres. These activities help students make sense of numbers in real-life situations while practising their measuring skills!
In CBL, our Grade 4 students have been reflecting on and showcasing their Minecraft Education worlds. They’ve been using a checklist for self-assessment to make sure their digital systems include ethical decisions, creating PowerPoint presentations to highlight all their landmarks and buildings, and communicating their ideas effectively with peers. These activities let students celebrate their learning, demonstrate their technology and coding skills, and share their creativity with others!
What a show! Our Grades 3–6 students lit up the stage at this year’s school concert with a fantastic mix of music, dance, and dazzling costumes — many of which they helped design themselves!
Our Grade 4 students were stars of the night:
4A & 4E rocked the stage with Old Time Rock and Roll
4B & 4C brought energy and flair to Johnny B. Goode
4D got everyone dancing with Can’t Stop the Feeling
4F spooked and grooved to the beat of Ghostbusters
It was amazing to see every student shine with confidence and joy. Their hard work, creativity, and teamwork were on full display — and we couldn’t be prouder!
Bravo, everyone! 👏🎉
Our Grade 3-4 students had an action-packed day at Kinglake Forest Adventure Camp! From the moment we arrived, it was all about teamwork, fun, and the great outdoors.
Students tackled Head 2 Head challenges, soared through the trees on the zipline and balanced while working together on the Giant Seesaw, They crept carefully through the Minefield and explored the Lyrebird Track where they saw wombat holes and the beauty of mother nature after the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires.
The Gaga tournament was a big hit, and we even had a visit from two friendly wallabies—Vincent and Fiona and you had to be the chosen few to feed them! To finish off the day, students completed a Radio Path Mission, using teamwork and clues to solve a forest challenge. Big congratulations to group 4 who were our champions!
It was a fantastic day of outdoor fun, new experiences, and great memories. We’re so proud of all our campers!
