NUMERACY
During Weeks 1–3, students explored fractions, decimals and percentages, learning to represent, compare and convert between them. They applied their understanding to real-life worded problems, including discounts and finding percentages of amounts. Students also explored decimals to thousandths and put their learning into practice through our Dream House Challenge.
LITERACY
During Weeks 1–3, students explored persuasive texts, identifying persuasive techniques such as emotive language, modal verbs, repetition and inclusive language. They learnt to evaluate authoritative sources and use reliable evidence to strengthen their arguments. In writing, students developed their TEEL paragraph structure, using persuasive language, evidence and cohesive devices to create more convincing arguments.
CBL
During Weeks 1–3, students explored democracy and how power is shared across Australia’s three levels of government. They investigated the roles and responsibilities of government representatives and how decisions affect communities. Students also considered how citizens can use their voices to influence decisions and create change.
Police Visit
During Week 3, we had a visit from Victoria Police as part of our Personal and Social learning. They taught us a lot about help-seeking strategies, personal safety and learning about ways to stay safe and seek help when needed.
Peer Support
The 5E and 5F peer support leaders began running their sessions during lunch and snack breaks, displaying excellent examples of the school values of Respect, Teamwork and Responsibility to some of the younger students at ACPS. Peer support leaders will continue running sessions throughout this term and will serve as model students and practising inclusiveness for all the students at ACPS.
