SMALL ACTS BIG IMPACT
ACPS SHOWCASE
Our ear 5 students proudly showcased their learning as part of the ACPS Small Acts, Big Impact Showcase. Families and members of our school community explored classrooms, participated in activities and celebrated the creativity, learning and achievements of our students.
Thank you to all the families who attended and supported our Year 5 students. It was wonderful to see so many of you there!

WEEK 8
CAMPASPE DOWNS
Our Year 5 students had an amazing time at Campaspe Downs! Throughout the camp, students challenged themselves, worked as a team and showed courage as they participated in a range of exciting activities. From trying new experiences to supporting and encouraging their classmates, there were plenty of memorable moments. It was wonderful to see students step outside their comfort zones, build their confidence and create special memories with their friends. A big well done to all of our Year 5 students for making Campaspe Downs such a fantastic experience!
R U OK DAY?💛
Today, our students took time to learn about the importance of checking in with others and asking, “Are you OK?” We discussed how a simple question, a kind conversation and taking the time to listen can make a big difference. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to reflect on how we can support our friends, classmates and wider school community by showing kindness, care and understanding.

BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION
Everyone was dressed up as their favourite characters today. There were many different costumes, such as dinosaurs, aliens, unicorn and Thing 1 & Thing 2!

NUMERACY
In Mathematics, Year 5 students have been developing their understanding of the metric system and measurement. They have been exploring different units for length, mass and capacity, learning to select appropriate units, convert between measurements and explain their mathematical thinking. Students have also been applying their skills to practical, real-world measurement problems.
LITERACY
In Literacy, Year 5 students have been exploring Tim Winton’s Blueback, developing their comprehension skills by investigating characters, key events, inner dialogue and how authors show the passing of time. Students have also been developing their writing through Passion Writing, focusing on sentence fluency and using punctuation to make their ideas clear, engaging and easy for the reader to follow.
CBL
In CBL, Year 5 students have been investigating how Earth changes over time. They have explored geological processes including weathering, erosion and deposition, as well as volcanic and tectonic activity, and how these processes create and change landforms. Students have also begun exploring Earth and space, investigating the solar system, Earth’s movement, time zones and the Moon and its phases.
Swimming and Athletics
The year 5's have been very busy this fortnight between Athletics Day and Swimming.
Students began their swim and water safety lessons at SPLASH Aquatic Park today. It was a great start to our 5 week program.
The Year 5 cohort is to be especially commended for giving everything a go with optimism and positivity. They also demonstrated respectful behaviour and positive interactions with both their teachers and peers throughout the day. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school.
NUMERACY
In Numeracy, we have been learning about fractions and angles through hands-on investigations and problem-solving activities. Students have explored equivalent fractions, compared, added and subtracted fractions, and used visual models to explain their mathematical thinking. They have also investigated angles by identifying, measuring and comparing different types of angles, applying these skills to real-world situations and geometric reasoning.

CBL
In Challenge Based Learning, we have been exploring how Earth and Space change over time and how these changes affect our world. Students have investigated real-world examples of weathering, erosion, deposition and natural disasters through hands-on investigations, experiments and provocations. They have been asking scientific questions, making observations, collecting evidence and thinking like scientists as they develop a deeper understanding of how our planet is constantly changing.
LITERACY
In Reading, we have been learning how poets use figurative language, imagery and tone to communicate powerful messages. Students have explored a range of traditional and slam poems, identifying techniques such as similes, metaphors, personification and imagery, while discussing how these language choices help readers understand the poet’s purpose, emotions and ideas. They have also begun comparing different styles of poetry and sharing their thinking through rich class discussions.
In Writing, we have been learning to write our own poetry by experimenting with descriptive language, figurative language and poetic structures. Students have explored how to use line breaks, stanzas, imagery and a range of poetic devices to strengthen their writing, while developing poems that express meaningful ideas, emotions and personal experiences.
