Weeks 6 & 7

NUMERACY

In Numeracy, students have been exploring probability and developing their understanding of chance and outcomes. Students have identified events that are equally likely and not equally likely, while listing and comparing possible outcomes of different chance events. Through hands-on investigations and repeated chance experiments, students collected and recorded data before analysing and describing the relative frequency of outcomes. Students have enjoyed making predictions, testing ideas, and using evidence to explain their mathematical thinking.

LITERACY

Over the past two weeks, students have been exploring explanation texts in both Reading and Writing. They have learned to identify the features, structure, and language used in explanation texts, while also comparing them with information texts. Students have begun researching topics of interest, organising their notes into categories, and developing questions to guide their learning. These skills are helping them prepare to write clear, well-structured explanation texts that explain how or why something happens.

CBL

During Weeks 6–7, students explored how geography, culture, and the environment influence the way people live around the world. They compared different countries by investigating climate, landforms, resources, traditions, and sustainable practices, while developing an understanding of how environments shape lifestyles and communities. Students then began the Challenge-Based Learning Action phase, working collaboratively to identify real-world environmental issues and develop practical, sustainable solutions. Through research, discussion, and teamwork, they started planning ideas that could make a positive impact on people and places around the world.

Weeks 8 &9

NUMERACY

In Numeracy this fortnight, students have been consolidating their learning on Area and Perimeter. They have explored the connection between area and perimeter and investigated how shapes can have the same area but different perimeters, or the same perimeter but different areas. Students have applied their understanding through hands-on activities, problem-solving tasks, and real-world investigations to strengthen their mathematical reasoning skills.

LITERACY

In Literacy, students have been engaging in a novel study of 'The Wild Robot', with a focus on developing inferencing, synthesising, and making connection skills. Students have explored character traits within the text and used evidence to make inferences about characters' thoughts, feelings, motivations, and relationships. In writing, students have been finalising their explanation texts, applying their understanding of text structure and language features to communicate information clearly and effectively. They have continued working on their passion writing pieces, demonstrating creativity while developing their ideas and writing skills through the use of the writing process.

CBL

In Challenge Based Learning, Year 5 students worked collaboratively to investigate a country of their choice and explore its connections to Australia and the wider world. They researched topics such as trade, culture, environment, sustainability, and global interconnections before creating a solution to showcase their learning. Students developed skills in research, note-taking, collaboration, and providing constructive feedback to peers. The unit concluded with students presenting their projects to the class and reflecting on their learning journey, achievements, and future wonderings.

Weeks 10

5F Gallery Walk CBL & Explanation Texts
Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our Year 5F Gallery Walk. It was wonderful to see so many families join us and take the time to celebrate the students' hard work this term. The students were incredibly proud to share their Explanation Texts and showcase the learning they have been engaged in throughout the term. Your support and encouragement help make these learning experiences even more meaningful for our students.
