Foundation
In this unit, Foundation students explore common fruits in Mandarin Chinese through listening, speaking, reading, and writing. They learn fruit vocabulary and practise saying what they like using simple sentences such as 'I like + fruit'. Students build confidence interacting in Chinese and begin to understand how language connects to personal experiences and culture.
Year 1/2
In Term 3, Year 1 and 2 students will explore vegetables and learn Chinese vocabulary to describe their preferences. They will also practise shopping conversations, including asking prices and expressing what they want to buy. Through songs, games, and role-plays, students will build confidence using spoken Chinese in everyday situations.
Year 3/4
In this term, Year 3 and 4 students will learn to tell the time in Chinese, including hours, minutes, and half-hours. Through interactive games, students will also practice constructing full sentences to ask and answer questions about time, enhancing both their comprehension and conversational skills.
Year 5/6
In this unit, students will expand their vocabulary related to Australian food and practise asking and answering questions used when ordering meals. Students also learn to express simple dietary needs and preferences, while gaining an understanding of Chinese dining customs and cultural practices associated with eating out.
