1/2 Maths

This could be made up of the following:

  • Practise counting forwards and backward for 0 to 100

  • Practise your 10s, 5s, 2s timetables

  • Count and group different objects around the house like how many cups, cans of food, pillows in the house, etc

  • Don't forget to rule up and date your work!

tHURSDAY 21ST MAY

  • Practise counting forwards and backwards by 10s to 150

  • Practise counting forwards by 5s as far as you can go

  • Choose an activity from the maths grid to complete.

Tuesday 19th May

  • Grade 1s- from your home learning pack find the Maths Investigation- Patterns

    • Design 3 friendship bracelets

  • Grade 2s- Complete a mystery picture from your home learning pack


Monday 18th May

  • Practise skip counting by 5's. Record in your book how far you got.

  • Make a pattern with numbers - each number pattern needs to have a minimum of 5 numbers in it.

  • Grade 1's- Make 3 different number patterns

  • Grade 2's- make 5 different number patterns

  • If this is a bit tricky: get someone to make you a simple pattern with numbers (increasing or decreasing by 1's and starting at different starting points eg, starting at 29, 57, 210)

    • To extend my learning: make a number pattern that increases or decreases by a 2 digit number.

Friday 15th May

Play a board game with your family.
Games could include:

  • Battleships

  • Uno

  • Go fish

  • Monopoly

Monday 11th May

  • Practise skip counting by 5's and record how far you got in your book.

  • Don't forget to date your work

  • Make 3 different patterns

    • Try making patterns with colours

    • shapes

    • objects- eg. blocks, toys or other manipulatives

  • If I find this tricky I can: use 2 different manipulatives or continue a pattern that someone has started.

  • To extend my learning I can: have a go making patterns with numbers such as adding 2 each time or skip counting.

Monday 4th May

  • Practise skip counting by 5's. Try and get to 50 or more. Record in your book how far you got.

  • Students are going to be practising the skill of hefting.

Hefting is defined as the estimate or test of weight by holding or lifting an object.

Students are to choose a range of objects from inside our outside. These need to be objects that they can hold safely in one hand.

Using their arms like scales and measure, using hefting, the mass of the objects.
Draw the objects in your book and identify which object is heavy and which object is light.

Grade 1: to compare the weight of 6 objects (2 at a time).

Grade 2: to compare the weight of 10 objects (2 at a time).

Tuesday 5th May

  • Practise skip counting by 5's and record how far you got in you book.

  • Choose 3 containers/pots/jugs etc from inside. Order them from smallest to largest. Draw them in order in your book.

  • Measure their capacity by filling them with water.

  • If your order was not correct draw new order of smallest to largest and record underneath how much water each container could hold.

Tuesday 28th April

  • Skip count by 10's- try to get beyond 150- record in your book how far you got

  • Challenge- try skip counting backwards from 200

  • Divide your page into a T Chart with he headings heavy and light- don't forget to date your work!

  • Draw things around your house and categorise them as heavy or light. Make sure you do your best and don't rush! I want to see colouring. Make sure you have a go at labelling your drawings too.

  • Grade 1- 3 in each column

  • Grade 2- 4 in each column

Monday 27th April

  • Skip count by 10's- try to get beyond 150- record in your book how far you got

  • Challenge- try skip counting backwards from 200

  • Try to do some cooking or baking today with adult supervision.

    • Help by measuring the ingredients.

    • Why is it important to measure accurately?

    • What tools in the kitchen can you use to measure ingredients?

  • email through some photos of what you have made!

  • Remember to help clean up after!!!

Friday 24th April

Choose a worded problem from your hard copy packs and use manipulatives to solve the problem. Email Mr Baker your answers.

Thursday 23rd April

TUESDAY 21ST april

  • Skip count by 10's as far as you can go. Try to get past 100! Record how far you got in your book.

  • Measure yourself and your family using your toys. (Prep students have the same activity so you can work together!)
    Remember that your toys need to be the same size to measure accurately. Eg all cars, all large teddies etc.
    Don't forget to record your results in your book.
    Who is the tallest?
    Who is the shortest?
    Draw the results in order from the smallest to the tallest (you can just draw the people)

Friday 17th April

  • Skip count by 10's and record in your book how far you got. Did you count further than yesterday?

  • Listen to the tens timetable song and sing along

  • Write out your tens times tables

  • From your Remote Learning packs choose a worded maths problem.
    Use items from around the house to help you work it out and send a picture of your answer to Miss Cornell- cornell.samantha.s@edumail.vic.gov.au
