What you will need to know:

You could also use the prompts below from week 5 to write a narrative (story), remember you can use some of your descriptive writing from week 5 in the narrative.

Main Task: Persuasive Writing - This week you will be writing a persuasive text using one of the image prompts below.

Today you will:

1. Write up your finished persuasive writing either using your best handwriting or in a Google Doc on a computer or iPad, then share with Mrs Rees.

Things to remember:

  1. Remember to include paragraphs with an introduction, 3 reasons and a conclusion (closing paragraph). There are several templates you can use to write your persuasive in the persuasive writing help tab.

  2. Check the persuasive rubric in the writing help page to guide your writing.

  3. Publish and email me your persuasive writing once you have finished your draft copy and have rewritten your persuasive using your best handwriting OR in a Google Doc

Main Task: Descriptive Writing

Choose one of the images below and describe what you see, tell me about the picture. Use the prompting questions to help you with your writing.

Write your descriptive writing in your home learning book or create a Google Doc which you can share with me once you have finished.

  • What is the larger mushroom reading

  • What kind of thing might you expect to find inside this book?

  • What’s happening here?

  • Give the creatures names.

  • Why does the purple creature have a peg on its nose? Why are its cheeks bulging?

  • Is the large character an ogre? A troll? Something else?

  • Why does he have his foot in a bowl?

  • How is he feeling? Why?

  • Why are there flies around him?

THE CLOCK TOWER

  • What can you see in this setting? Where do you think this is?

  • Who is the person hanging from the clock tower? How did he get there? Who is the person holding him? Are they allies or enemies? How do you know?

  • What are they doing here? Does anyone know that they’re there?

  • Why is there a drone in the foreground? Does it belong to those characters or someone else?

  • Is the time important?

Monday 11th May

Task: Write about 3 places you would like to travel to someday.

  • Why would you like to travel to these places?

  • What do you think you will see when you are there?

  • What do these three places have in common?

Task: This week you will be writing a persuasive text to convince someone why you deserve to win $1000.

Today you will:

1. Write up your finished persuasive writing either using your best handwriting or in a word document on a computer or iPad, then

2. Email your persuasive text to me, Mrs Rees. There's a prize for the two students who can convince me the most that you should win $1000.

(Note: the actual prize isn't $1000 but I promise it will still be good!)

friday 17th april

Task: Adding adverbs to a sentence.

  • Rewrite the 5 to 10 sentences you wrote yesterday (Thursday 16th April) but ADD an adverb to add more detail to the sentence.

e.g On the holidays I often rode my lazy pony. (the adverb in this sentence is 'often')

  • Once you have rewritten the 10 sentences, underline the noun and adjective words in each sentence using bright colours.

  • Email me a photo of your great work.

thursday 16th april

Task: Adding an adjective to a sentence.

  • Rewrite the 5 to 10 sentences you wrote yesterday (Wednesday 15th April) but ADD an adjective to describe the noun in the sentence.

e.g On the holidays I rode my lazy pony. (the adjective in this sentence is 'lazy')

  • Once you have rewritten the 5 to 10 sentences, underline the noun and adjective words in each sentence using bright colours.

  • Email me a photo of your great work.

Remember:

Adjectives are words that modify nouns. They are often called “describing words” because they give us more details about a noun, such as what it looks like (the white horse), how many there are (the three boys) or which one it is (the last house).

A noun is a word for a person, place, or thing.

Wednesday 15th april

Task: Writing sentences that include verbs (doing/action/feeling words).

  • Write between 5 and 10 sentences starting with "On the holidays I......"

e.g On the holidays I rode my pony. (the verb in this sentence is 'rode')

  • Once you have written 5 to 10 sentences, underline the verb words in each sentence using bright colours.

  • Email me a photo of your great work.
