  • Parents: Please let your child do this task independently. Once your child has finished writing encourage them to re-read their work aloud and fix any errors independently. I am asking that the writing from today be emailed to Miss Cornell as I am wanting to use it for assessment purposes. If your child does not take to any of the prompts below they can draw their own.


  • Chose one of the pictures below and write a story about the picture.

  • Have about 10 minutes planning time. You can draw/ write a plan. Think about who is in your story, what are they going to do.

    • Don't forget to include capital letters and boundary punctuation (. ! ?)

    • Give your characters names

    • Have a sizzling start

    • Have a problem

    • Have a solution (how your problem gets fixed)

  • Once you have finished your writing go back a re-read what you have written. Check your spelling and punctuation amking any changes with your red editing pencil.

  • Who – or what – smashed the glass?

  • Was the frog there before, or did it enter the frame afterwards?

Writing

Read the following passage to you child. It may help if they close their eyes when you are reading. Encourage them to make a mini movie in their min when you are reading. You may need to read the passage several times. Students are to draw the image in their mind that the writing provokes. Encourage your child to add details in the picture. They may wish to initially draw in grey lead and then colour in.

The sun was shining through the tall brown trees. It was early autumn and the leaves where beginning to turn orange, red and deep purple. I shivered as I walked along the path. It had rained this morning and there were still puddles on the ground.

Writing

  • Write how you and your family commemorated ANZAC day

    • What did you do?

    • Who was with you?

    • Did you make something for ANZAC Day?- wreath, poppy picture, lantern etc

    • What were you thinking during the minutes silence?

  • Don't forget to rule and and write the date!

  • Once you have finished your writing, re-read what you have written and check for- capital letters, full stops, and spelling of Magic Words

  • Don't forget to use your red editing pencil when making changes after writing. It makes it so much easier for Miss Cornell and Mr Baker to see what changes you have made.

  • Parents- Please allow your child to write independently. If you child is struggling talk about what you did as a family, get them to draw a picture of what they did first and then write about it. With spelling, encourage your child to have a go and then assist during editing time, celebrating the letter and sound choices that they have made.

A list is dot points only, not full sentences. You can copy the spelling of words from the book.

Remember an adjective is a describing word. It could talk about size, shape, colour, age, feel, touch, smell, etc
