Beyond the box - choreographic project

This unit has been developed to assist teachers with the implementation of composition in the dance classroom. 

The resource is suitable for students in Years 7 to 10 and is relevant to the NSW Dance 7-10 Syllabus. 

Aim of the unit: to use a poem as a stimulus to create personalised movement and structure this to create a dance work. 

Duration: 5 weeks (2 x 60 minutes lessons per week).

Students will present a collaborative dance work devised through problem-solving tasks and manipulation of the elements of dance. They will explore, devise, select, refine and structure movement in response to the poem.

Students are required to utilise choreographic tools as a foundation of their dance work. These tools are the basis of the communication of a concept or intention and include: sequence, transition, repetition, variation, and contrast.
