Activity - Using a digital portfolio

As you work on the Standing of Country unit with your class you will be using a digital portfolio to record your ideas, research and create solutions. Be creative and keep your portfolio up to date. You can add additional pages if you need by copying and pasting the final page of the portfolio.

Download and save your portfolio to your Google Drive or your device.

Your Challenge

The issue

When the European people arrived in Australia, it resulted in huge changes to the traditional Aboriginal way of life. Even today, many Aboriginal people don’t have access to the same opportunities as non-Aboriginal people.

Activity - 2018 Australian Reconciliation Barometer

As a class explore the 2018 Australian Reconciliation Barometer or other reliable data (some linked below) as a class or in small groups. Identify 'key findings' and write it on a post it note to stick on a classroom brainstorming board or use an online tool such as Google Jamboard to share your findings as a class. Record your class ideas in your digital portfolio by taking a screenshot of the whiteboard.

Make a change

In this project, you will:

  • work with a group to learn about Country, Place, the traditional Aboriginal way of life and Acknowledgement of Country

  • individually create and share your own Acknowledgment of Country

  • work with your group to develop an idea about how to improve knowledge of Aboriginal connection to Country in your school and create a proposal for your Principal
