The scaffold to the left will assist you in writing your evaluation. To use the scaffold you will start at the bottom of the evaluate column and move to the top. For each paragraph, you should explore 1 idea (such as welding for example), and answer each question in the column. For example:
What components did you MIG weld?
What kind of joint was it? A fillet, a double v butt joint, a butt joint? What does the joint look like?
Why did the joint need to be welded? Is strength an important factor? Is your weld strong? How do you know?
Does your weld affect the function of your F Clamp? Is it a positive or negative affect, why?
When you wrote your statement of intent, you answered a series of questions and set yourself some goals. You should consider your statement of intent when writing your evaluation.
For example, the questions on the Statement of Intent website page are:
What are you making? Describe it...
Key features?
Throat depth?
You are to write a paragraph detailing whether or not you have made your F Clamp, and if it resembles the working drawings that you have been provided. In your Statement of Intent you should have indicated a target throat depth, you could write about whether or not your F Clamp fits this criteria and write about why it has or has not.
What materials will you be using? List them in sentence form...
Reference the materials list for the project.
For this question, you could write a paragraph discussing whether or not you used the correct materials for your project, and evaluate the lengths of each piece. If something is shorter or longer, why is that so, and how would you do it better next time?
What processes will you be using? What tools are required for those processes? List them in sentence form...
What machines and hand tools are required, and what do you use them for?
Write a paragraph about the processes you used. You may wish to focus on welding and the lathe. Did you have success with the welder and how do you measure your success? Maybe you increased in confidence or saw a drastic improvement in the quality of your welds? Why did you improve and how could you improve further?
What experience do you have with the materials, processes and tools that you will be using for this project? Explain this in detail...
Did you do Metal in Year 8? If so, have you used any of the tools listed above? Are you confident with them?
Have you used a Mig Welder before? Was it at school or home? Are you self taught or has somebody taught you?
Do you have any personal goals you would like to achieve during this project? Explain them...
Explicitly state these goals in sentence form.
How will you achieve your goals? Whose help will you need?
Write a paragraph about discussing how your previous experience helped you. If you did not have previous experience, how did you achieve your goals? WHat could you do better next time?
