Assistant Principal's Message

WELCOME FROM MR GOARD

Welcome to North Rocks Public School for 2023. Our teachers are all so excited to meet our beautiful new Kindergarten children and their families and to welcome you all into our wonderful school community.

Kindergarten Orientation Events:

We are holding a Kindergarten Parent Expo on Wednesday 23rd November. Please come along to receive information about Kindergarten and get answers to any questions you might have.

We will be holding two orientation sessions for our new Kindergarten students. These will occur on Thursday 24th November and Friday 2nd December. During these sessions the new students will get to visit the school and participate in classroom activities with one of our Kindergarten teachers.

This year we are also introducing a new event for our 2023 Kindergarten students and their families called the ‘Welcome to NRPS tour’. This event will occur on Wednesday 2nd November. During this event parents and new students will get to visit our school and be taken on a tour by some of our student leaders. It is a great opportunity for you to see the school with your children and get to visit important locations.

We look forward to meeting our families and new students at the various orientation events.

Other school communication is sent out through the School Stream app. You can access this app through the app store on all Smart Phones. Download it to your phone and select North Rocks Public School. Important information, alerts and links are sent to families through School Stream and it is our main method of communication, so it will be essential that you have access.

Getting to know your child:

All parents and carers will need to complete an information survey so that we can get to know a little about your child. This will help us to plan a smooth transition into Kindergarten. The survey is completed using the link on the Home page of this website or via the Welcome Letter emailed to you in September.

Students with a Language Background Other than English:

You will need to complete an additional survey if your child has a Language Background Other than English. The information provided is being obtained to ensure that support is allocated appropriately to students with English as an Additional Language or Dialect. The survey is completed online using the link on the Home page of this website or via the Welcome Letter emailed to you in September.

Information provided in the surveys will be kept private and is for internal use only. Surveys must be completed by Friday 26th November 2022.

Best Start:

In the first week of Term 1 2023, each new Kindergarten child will participate in a Best Start assessment with one of our Kindergarten teachers. The assessments go for approximately 40 minutes and help to give us an idea of each child’s level of ability in Literacy and Numeracy. This assists us with our planning. The teacher who conducts this assessment with your child may or may not be their 2023 class teacher. There is no need for your child to study or prepare for Best Start. You will be sent a letter in the middle of December, informing you of your child’s Best Start time. If you are unable to bring your child at their allocated time, please contact the school office so an alternative time can be arranged.

Starting School:

Following Best Start, our Kindergarten students will begin school. More information about the first day of school will be provided in the middle of December. For the first week, children will be allocated to a temporary class grouping. This will give our teachers an opportunity to get to know the children before we form our classes for the rest of the year. Once the children are allocated to their 2023 classes you will receive information about your child’s teacher, class name and room.

We look forward to meeting our lovely new students and their families. Please phone the school office on 9871 1772 or send an email to northrocks-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au if you have any further questions regarding your child’s enrolment.

Kind Regards,

Thomas Goard – Relieving Assistant Principal, Early Stage 1
