Recently, sixteen of our Year 12 Physics students had the exciting opportunity to visit the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) at Lucas Heights. This excursion gave students a first-hand look at some of Australia’s most advanced scientific facilities, including nuclear reactors and particle accelerators.
Students learned about how nuclear science is applied in medicine, industry, and environmental research. Guided by ANSTO staff, they explored how reactors are used to produce vital medical isotopes and how particle accelerators contribute to cutting-edge research. The visit allowed students to see how the concepts they are studying in class directly connect to real-world applications and innovations.
This unique experience not only deepened their understanding of core HSC Physics topics but also inspired many to consider future careers in Science and Engineering. It was an invaluable day of learning, and our students represented Kogarah High School with great enthusiasm and curiosity.
