Mr Dave Haggart
Principal (relieving)
I would like to extend my congratulations to our Year 12 students for successfully completing their Trial Higher School Certificate exams. Your hard work, dedication, and resilience have brought you to this important milestone, and I have no doubt that you will continue to work hard to excel in the final HSC examinations beginning on October 16.
Our Year 11 students have also shown their commitment to excellence by completing their end-of-Preliminary HSC course exams. Your focus on your studies is commendable, and I encourage you to continue with the same enthusiasm as you move into Year 12.
In the spirit of bringing our school community together, we were fortunate to hold our first Back to Kogarah Day. This event will become a cherished tradition, providing an opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultures that make up our vibrant school community. It is essential to honour and embrace the many backgrounds, traditions, and perspectives that each student and family bring to our school, as this diversity enriches our shared experience. Celebrating our various cultures not only fosters unity and respect but also helps us appreciate the unique contributions that make our community so special.
This was an exciting term for our Year 8 and 10 students as they select their electives and patterns of study for 2026. Our subject selection evening was a wonderful opportunity for us to be able to reconnect with parents. There were fabulous displays about the subjects that we are able to offer at Kogarah High School, with teachers giving up their time to have meaningful discussions with students and parents. The school is very lucky to be able to provide a wide variety of subject choices, catering for many areas of student interest.
This is also an exciting term for our Year 11 students as they complete their Preliminary HSC studies and our Year 12 students as they finish 13 years of schooling. Both year groups have upcoming exams or HSC Trials and should be hard at work preparing for these.
As we look ahead, I wish our Year 12 students a smooth and successful start to their Higher School Certificate examinations. Remember, you are well-prepared, and your potential is limitless. Embrace this opportunity and showcase your knowledge, skills, and determination.
Thank you to our entire school community for your ongoing support and commitment to our students' success.

As Term 3 draws to a close, we reflect on a term filled with memorable events and achievements across our school community. Our Years 9 to 12 students had the opportunity to participate in an exhilarating snow trip, organised by Mr Haggart, Ms Best, Ms Miklos, Mr Clarke, and Ms Taylor. This excursion not only provided a fun and adventurous experience on the slopes but also fostered teamwork, resilience, and friendship among students.
This term, we were delighted to welcome a group of overseas students from China. Their visit allowed them to immerse themselves in Australian culture, engage with local students, and participate in various school activities. This cultural exchange enriched our learning environment and strengthened our global connections.
In the sporting arena, both our girls and boys teams competed with great spirit and skill at the St George and Sydney East Regional Oztag tournaments. Their dedication and teamwork were commendable, showcasing our school’s commitment to excellence in sport.
Year 11 students focused intently on their studies, successfully completing their preliminary exams during Weeks 8 and 9. These exams are an important milestone, helping prepare them for their future HSC studies and assessments.
During Week 7, we celebrated our Support and Administrative Staff (SASS) with Appreciation Week. This was a special time to recognise the invaluable contributions of our SASS team, whose hard work behind the scenes ensures the smooth running of our school.
Our female students had the opportunity to participate in a Women’s Health Nurse workshop during Weeks 9 and 10. This informative program raised awareness about important health issues and encouraged positive wellbeing choices, empowering our girls to take charge of their health.
A highlight of the term was the Back to Kogarah Day celebration on Friday, 19 September, expertly organised by Mr Haggart and his team. The event featured vibrant dance performances from around the world, reflecting the rich cultural diversity of our school community. Students, staff, and families enjoyed a wide variety of foods representing different cultures, creating a festive atmosphere that celebrated inclusion and togetherness.
Finally, this week we bid a heartfelt farewell to our Year 12 cohort of 2025. Their final weeks were marked by a series of celebrations, including themed dress-up days and a relaxing picnic. The term culminated in a moving graduation ceremony and dinner on Thursday night, honouring their achievements and marking the end of their school journey. We wish all our Year 12 students every success in their upcoming HSC exams and all their future endeavours.
As we conclude another busy and successful term, we extend our warmest wishes to all students, staff, and families for a safe, restful, and happy holiday break. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for Term 4.
