Glenn Miller was an American big band leader, composer, arranger and trombonist. The Glenn Miller Orchestra formed in 1938 and was the most commercially successful jazz orchestra during the swing era. The orchestra disbanded in 1942.
A big band is a large jazz ensemble, typically consisting of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section. Big bands developed during the early- to mid-1900s and generally rely more on pre-planned arrangements than improvisation. The Glenn Miller Orchestra also featured a clarinet.
