How are classes formed?
Classes are not formed based on student ability. The teaching staff at Bayanami will spend time getting to know all students over the first few weeks of school before forming official Kindergarten classes.
Who will my child’s teacher be?
After the first few weeks of school, Kindergarten classes will be formed. Once this occurs you will receive a letter from your child’s teachers introducing themselves. This letter will also include their email addresses.
Will my child have the same teacher every year?
In Australia, it is not customary for teachers to follow the same students throughout their school career. As your child moves through school it’s highly possible that they will experience a range of different teachers.
How will I know what my child is learning at school?
At the beginning of each school term you will receive an overview of the learning that has been planned for the term ahead. You may wish to contact your child’s teacher for more information regarding our teaching and learning programs, or visit our Learning at Bayanami page.
Who will help my child learn English?
All of the teachers at Bayanami will support your child when learning to speak English. In addition, we have specialist teachers who support students English language development during school hours.
Should I speak to my child in English at home?
We encourage families to continue to speak in your first language at home. Children find it much easier to learn a second language when they are fluent in their first.
What can I do to help my child with their learning at home?
There are a number of ways you can support your child’s learning at home. These include:
Reading with your child every day
Encouraging play experiences
Listening to your child’s questions and engage in conversations about their day
Singing songs and play games
What time should my child go to bed and rise in the morning?
According to the Australian Department of Health, school-aged children require 9-11 hours of sleep per night. Getting a sufficient amount of sleep will assist your child to concentrate and remember things, and feel happier. Will my child be allowed to go to the bathroom at any time?
Toilets are located in many places around the school. Your child is encouraged to use the bathroom as often as necessary before school and during break times. If your child requires use of the bathroom during learning time, they will be permitted to go with a classmate.
Can my child heat up their food?
Students do not have access to microwaves, stoves or ovens while at school, so the lunch you pack for your child should be safe to store and eat cold or at room temperature.
