There are fundamental techniques to maximise your memory and knowledge base. On this page you will find a series of techniques designed to help prepare you for examinations.
A simple flow for a study process could be as follows:
Steps for success:
When learning a new topic or revising a module, write one page of notes using the Cornell method (see below how).
At the end of the day or a couple of days later, practice the technique of active recall.
Retaining knowledge comes from repetition, remember repetition is the mother of skill.
Steps for success:
in the first 5 minutes of a study session. Set a timer for 5 minutes.
In the 5 minutes write down everything you recall from a topic, a lesson you have just completed, or a subject you are revising for.
Once you are done, read the information and review your notes from class or the stimulus materials and notice any area you have not recalled. Make a short note.
The method would be used over a variety of time horizons. Eg. the same day you learnt a topic, 2 days later, 1 week later, 1 month later. Studies have shown that regularly recalling information keeps it in your working memory.
Many questions throughout this examination will use one of these four (5) verbs. Your answer MUST meet the criteria required by the verb.
Describe: provide characteristics & features.
Explain: relate cause & effect; make the relationships between things evident; provide why and l or how.
Discuss: Identify issues and provide points for and against
Identify: recognise & name.
Outline: Sketch in general terms; indicate the main features.
The linked chatbot is a custom Artificial Intelligence Bot that has been programmed to provide specific support and guidance for this course. The bot has been trained using the Design and Technology Website and resources of this course.
Steps for success:
1. Open the AI bot and ask it a specific question. Use a prompting Framework like CARE(Context, Action, Result, Example)
2. Iterate and provide feedback to the bot on exactly what you want, including formatting.
3. Provide feedback to Mr Littlejohns so any specific areas of the bot can be improved.
