You are in the initial stages of planning and thinking about your Major Project HOWEVER, you will be making a firm decision soon about what you will actually be making so you have a very limited amount of time in which to do this. By the End of week 2 of Term 4, you will be putting a firm proposal to your teacher for approval and if parents are paying for the materials, you will be getting their approval as well. One of the best ways to get an idea of what might consist of a suitable project is to look at what has already been done in the past and what might be possible in the future.
Initial Planning will be conducted over 3 phases, phase 1 and 2 focus on research and inspiration they will be included in your portfolio under the appropriate heading (refer to marking criteria), phase 3 focuses on getting leverage on your motivations and taking massive action to achieve your goals.
From the websites below research find between 3 and 5 designs and copy their images and insert them into this document. For each design, conduct an analysis, stating:
What problem does the design solve?
How might you incorporate it into your project (don’t get too caught up on being definite about this yet - just a general idea)
What concerns do you have about it, what questions do you have, what additional research might you have to do?
Do not create a new document - complete this task by adding additional slides to the template provided on Google Classroom. All comments and feedback will be given in this document.
Use pictures to assist your analysis and research, use the snipping tool or save from an image search and then insert them.
Get used to using various tools in Google Slides to enhance your presentation such as:
Shape tools
Line tools
Format options such as shading, fill colours, borders, drop shadows etc
Use different but appropriate fonts and colours to make it look professional.
Turn guides on and use them so that text boxes and images are aligned and that your presentation looks neat and organised and fully completed to a professional standard.
There are three main markets: Health, Wealth and Relationships. Pick one using the check lists below.
I. Pick the right market:
❏ In Pain
❏ Purchasing Power
❏ Easy to Target
❏ Growing
II. Pick a Niche:
❏ Niche Down 3-4 Levels
❏ Health→ Weight Loss→ Weight Loss for Women who just had kids→ Following Keto
❏ Wealth→ Real Estate→ Flipping→ Without having to see a property all using DMs
❏ Realtionships→ Dating→ Over 60→ Without awkward first dates
Using Artificial Intelligence to aid in research. Remember you need to reference any use of AI in your portfolio.
Steps for success:
Use ChatGPT 4 to research problems and solutions in various markets, health, technology, wellbeing etc.
In your Portfolio write a heading that matches this task. ie. Identification of needs subheading problems and solutions.
Answer the following questions for each problem/solution.
What is the problem? Complete a PINE analysis to describe how/what it affects and to what level this impacts society/environment.
What are the solutions to the problem? are these solutions appropriate or can they be improved? if so how?
How to access ChatGPT on MS Bing
Download Microsoft Edge Browser
Sign in with a personal Microsoft account
Go to bing.com and select chat mode
Choose a conversation style (recommend ‘more creative)
How to prompt AI: Describe the task, outline the style (report, story etc), and include constraints ( write in a table, how long is the paragraph, include references etc).
There is a wide variety of techniques for the design and development of a project. The purpose of this section of initial planning is to identify what techniques may be needed to design/produce the solutions to the problems and research 2-3 techniques that would be needed in the production of the project.
Steps for success:
Identify 2-3 techniques that are needed to design/produce a solution to the problem you may wish to solve.
Research and complete a PINE analysis of what this technique involves, i.e. time, materials, tools, and skills.
Evaluate how using these techniques could improve the quality of your project/solution.
What are techniques:
Design: hand sketching, using CAD, Adobe Illustrator, idea generation etc.
Production: Laser Cutting, Epoxy, Machinery use, Joining timber, and Welding metal, sewing. etc.
A PINE Analysis is a series of dot points that break down the critique of a project into four areas: positive, interesting, negative and evaluation. For each letter of the word PINE you will identify and describe two to three points.
P = Positive
Describe positive features of the project, reflect on material colour, type of material, features, construction techniques, is it a simple or hard project etc).
I = Interesting
Describe any interesting details, or techniques that have been used, how could they be incorporated into your major project.
N = Negative
Describe any areas of the project you do not like refer to: design how it looks (aesthetics) and how the project functions, reflect on your skill level is this project too complex.
E = Evaluation
Justify your final opinion of the project relating the whole project or aspects of the design to the following areas:
have you got the skills to construct a project like this or aspects of it;
Can the project be completed in the time frame (3 Terms);
Have you got any experience in making a project of this type;
Materials are they suitable would you change them, can you afford to construct the project, what costs are involved.
RPM planning is a way to maximise the results of your life and maximise your sense of fulfilment and joy. What’s most important to you as an outcome (a result) and why it is important to you (your purpose) will give you the juice to move forward toward realizing your dreams. If you’ve got a strong enough reason and a strong enough purpose, you will figure out how to pull it off.
Completing a Major Project is no easy task, it takes time, skill, dedication and knowledge. By answering these questions below you will help yourself get leverage and uncover your true motivations for completing a Major Project.
Effort = Results !
Results - Oriented
What’s the outcome I’m after? What’s the specific measurable result? The more precise, the stronger it is.
Refer to band (1-6), solving a real world problem, quality of project, level of pride/achievement etc.
Purpose - Driven
2. What is the purpose of the result? What impact will it have? What are my reasons? Why is this not just a “should,” but a must for me? The emotional quality of purpose makes what you will do not only sustainable, but powerful.
Massive Action Plan (MAP)
3. What specifically needs to happen in order for the goal to be achieved? When does it need to be achieved by? What’s my massive action plan? Not just one or two things. Brainstorm a bunch of ideas. What are all the possibilities, so I can later decide which one has the most power?
Great work! You have developed initial plans, consulted with your parents regarding financial support, developed a Massive Action Planning and gained your teachers final approval. You will now begin Assessment Task 1 Project Proposal, which consists of the first sections of your Major Project Portfolio. Click the button below for further details.
