NAIDOC WEEK 2024
Keep The Fire Burning
Yulunga! During Week 2, we celebrated NAIDOC Week and kept the fire burning. We combined our SRC assembly with our NAIDOC festivities, welcoming Uncle Drew, a local Dharawal man, who performed a smoking ceremony and a Welcome to Country. Our Australian National Anthem was beautifully sung in the Dharawal language by Olivia and Sofia P.
Our Koori boys from the Young Warriors program created a vibrant atmosphere by playing their didgeridoos, which they crafted and decorated themselves. Their teacher, Breaden Newton, provided support throughout their performance. The talented boys included Rily D, Quinten D, Malik M, Kyan C, and Riley C.
Our Women’s Business girls showcased their own 'Welcome Dance,' collaborating with Teana W. Aliyah D, Janaya D, Amirah L, Charttole F, Lilly F, and Lakelands student Georgia F came together to ward off negative energy and welcome positive vibes to our school and our new SRC representatives.
The NAIDOC address was delivered by Year 12 student Charlotte F, who shared her cultural journey and the significance of NAIDOC Week. Her words left a lasting impact on everyone present.
We wrapped up the week with a fantastic NAIDOC stall featuring merchandise, Kararra caps, shirts, jumpers, and bush tucker-inspired food and drinks, including salt and pepper crocodile, finger lime cake, wattle seed cheesecake, and butterfly pea purple mocktails.
Thank you to all our special guests and parents who helped us celebrate NAIDOC 2024!
