Mathematics Core A Is an appropriate pathway for students who have demonstrated some confidence with their study of Mathematics through Stage 4 (Years 7 and 8). Students will engage with review before being extended to learn new content, preparing them for trade pathways or continued study of Mathematics at the Mathematics Standard Level. Students will learn mathematics supporting confidence with real life activities, such as managing finances and budgeting, understanding measurement, understanding and interpreting data, plus more. They will also develop their skills with more abstract concepts such as Algebra and patterns, allowing them future options of study.
Topics Studied are: Financial Mathematics, Algebraic Techniques, Indices, Equations, Linear relationships, Trigonometry, Area, Surface Area, Volume, Data analysis and Probability.

Students who follow the Mathematics Standard pathway in Stage 6 will have opportunities in the following career opportunities:

This course does not provide the robust mathematics to continue study at the advanced or extension levels in Year 11 and 12. Students in this course are recommended to continue Mathematics at the Standard level in Year 11 and 12.
Students wishing to pursue a career in Stem fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), as well as certain areas of business and finance, should seek advice if they are placed within this course, as these career fields often require students to study Advanced Mathematics or extension.
