The Mathematics Extension 1 Course is an exciting and challenging course for students interested in expanding their mathematical skill sets and furthering their career opportunities.
This stimulating course is intended to demonstrate the power and versatility of mathematics, giving students a thorough understanding of and competence in many aspects of mathematics, including many which are applicable to the real world.
In addition to the specific content skills, students will learn to value and appreciate the importance of resilience and self-motivation in undertaking mathematical challenges as well as the importance of taking responsibility for their own learning and evaluation of their mathematical development.

Mathematics Extension 1 is a recommended minimum basis for further studies in mathematics as a major discipline at a tertiary level and for the study of mathematics in support of the physical and engineering sciences.
This course must be studied in conjunction with Mathematics advanced. This course cannot be studied in conjunction with Mathematics Standard.
HSC outcomes build on skills and knowledge from the Preliminary course and as such, all Preliminary content is assessable in the HSC Examination.
