At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.
Our school has three core behavioural values that all children are expected to follow:
Be Safe
Be Respectful
Be a Learner
Blacktown South Public School students learn about one aspect of our school expectation matrix each week. These lessons focus on our playground and classroom expectations, the weekly lessons focus on topics such as:
reporting problems to a teacher.
waiting your turn in class.
The students love learning how to be safe, respectful learners in the classroom and on the playground and displaying these values within our school setting.
Our school motto is 'Strive to Achieve' and everyone is encouraged to be the best they possibly can be in any given situation. Our students are recognised through the school's PBL reward system and work towards becoming shooting stars.
South Stars are handed out as recognition to students who are demonstrating that they are safe, respectful learners.
These South Stars are then collected and traded in for fun rewards!
Students can also earn Shooting Stars. When a student earns 10 Shooting Stars they earn their Bronze Award. From Bronze, students will then move through to collect their Silver, Gold, Sapphire and Star Pin Award.

Student leadership helps young people find their voices, participate in decision-making, and understand their rights and responsibilities as active citizens. It helps students have a real impact on their learning and school environment and prepares them to participate meaningfully in their community.
Students can be leaders in the classroom, through their actions in the playground, through their support for others, or their involvement in academic, sporting, cultural or local community events or projects.
