Stronger Sisters

Stronger Sisters is a 10 week program with a strong focus on working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women in our community. Stronger Sisters is a school-lead initiative that focuses on promoting a sense of belonging and leadership for young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls at Ballina Coast High School.

Stronger Sisters is a 10 week program and is designed to assist with positive relationships, teaching them to respect themselves and others around them, and be proud of their identity. It is very unique in that students actually get a chance to have a say in what they are taught, with collaboration between facilitators, students, their school, parents and community which makes it an exclusive program and one that changes each time the program is delivered at school.

The young women will participate and lead a range of activities that encourage a connection to self, build confidence, develop leadership skills and consider their overall wellbeing. The activities and discussions are directed by the themes of self, health, social and emotional. Stronger Sisters includes female-focused community projects.

This program welcomes the involvement and consultation of the local community through guest speakers, involvement in community events and community input in planning.
