How we can help
Jullum operating hours
We are located on level 2 in room L2.15
Open Monday to Friday
BREAK 1 the centre is closed
BREAK 2 years 10, 11 & 12 are allowed to ‘self study’ quietly.
We not only provide cultural programs collaborated with the local AECG, Bunjum Aboriginal Corporated, Bullinah Health services, NSW Bundjalung Languages Cultural Nest and with the broader community for dance, weaving and artwork; we also provide in class support as required by students learning plans and/or referrals.
The Jullum Team are dedicated to providing resources needed to ensure the priorities are met and students and staff have access to these important initiatives. The Jullum Team regularly liaise with community, executive and staff members at BCHS to ensure we provide our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the best learning outcomes and continue our partnership with the state and local AECG to better the educational, social and cultural outcomes for our students.
Resources
The Jullum Ganngaang Centre offers a range of resources to support students of all years with their cultural, wellbeing, and academic needs. This is a culturally safe, quiet learning space for students to study.
Our Centre also offers:
Pigeon holes for students to store their work/papers/small items.
15 laptops, 4 of which are allowed to be borrowed and taken to classes when students need them.
A small well-being space with resources for students to support them with self regulation.
Calculators, rulers, geometry sets & graph books for student use when needed.
A Junior folder and Senior folder with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students timetables.
A bookshelf full of a variety of books for all levels, fiction, fact and textbooks for coursework.
A student notice board with upcoming events, programs, other relevant activities and informational resources for all year groups.
Student referral to the Jullum Ganngaang Centre
We support all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who require help to complete upcoming and/or overdue ASSESSMENTS and CLASSWORK.
We do offer SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL support if required, in the best interest of the child to access the centre.
Referrals are made by teachers 3 days prior to needing support.
Referrals are reviewed by the Jullum team WEEKLY.
The Jullum team will notify the teacher who made the referral via email what action they have decided to take in reference to supporting the student requested. Whether it be SLSO/AEO in class support with the student or withdrawing them from class to work in the Jullum Ganngaang Centre for that period if it is more beneficial for the student.
Aboriginal Personal Learning Pathways (PLPs)
BCHS in collaboration with students Learning Coaches and the Aboriginal Education Team conducting Personal Learning Pathway plans with our Aboriginal students twice a year.
The PLP document is used by schools to ensure Aboriginal students and their parents/carers are actively engaged in meaningful planning and decision-making in education. PLP conversations are of great importance as they identify and strengthen shared understandings of goals, expectations and responsibilities.
