The Jullum Ganngaang (Learning) Centre was established at Ballina Coast High School in 2019, with an aim “to increase the proportion of Aboriginal students attaining their HSC whilst maintaining cultural identity.
Through the provision of wellbeing, academic and cultural support the AL&ECs aim to enhance outcomes for secondary Aboriginal students, with a focus to improve student engagement, attendance, retention, HSC attainment and support for students at key transition points to progress.
Since 2019 the Jullum Ganngaang Centre has seen consistent high results Aboriginal students completing their HSC.
We are located on level 2 in room L2.15

BREAK 1 the centre is closed
BREAK 2 years 10, 11 & 12 are allowed to ‘self study’ quietly.
We not only provide cultural programs collaborated with the local AECG, Bunjum Aboriginal Corporated, Bullinah Health services, NSW Bundjalung Languages Cultural Nest and with the broader community for dance, weaving and artwork; we also provide in class support as required by students learning plans and/or referrals.
The Jullum Team are dedicated to providing resources needed to ensure the priorities are met and students and staff have access to these important initiatives. The Jullum Team regularly liaise with community, executive and staff members at BCHS to ensure we provide our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the best learning outcomes and continue our partnership with the state and local AECG to better the educational, social and cultural outcomes for our students.
The Jullum Ganngaang Centre offers a range of resources to support students of all years with their cultural, wellbeing, and academic needs. The Jullum Ganngaang Centre is a culturally safe learning space for our students to study.
Our centre offers:
Space for students to store their work/papers/small items.
Laptops to borrow to complete coursework.
A small well-being space with resources for students to support them with self regulation.
Calculators, rulers, geometry sets & graph books for student use when needed.
A Junior folder and Senior folder with all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students timetables.
A variety of books for all levels, fiction, fact and textbooks for coursework.
A student notice board with upcoming events, programs, other relevant activities and informational resources for all year groups.
We support all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who require help to complete upcoming and/or overdue ASSESSMENTS and CLASSWORK.
We do offer SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL support when required, in the best interest of the child to access the centre.
Referrals need to be made by teachers 3 days prior to needing support with classwork.
Referrals are reviewed by the Jullum Team WEEKLY.
The Jullum Team will notify the teacher who made the referral via email what action they have decided to take in reference to supporting the student requested. Whether it be SLSO in class support with the student or withdrawing them from class to work in the Jullum Ganngaang Centre for that period if it is more beneficial for the student.
