Reading Activity Report
As per the mentoring calendar, a reading activity session was conducted on 8th April 2025 during our regular mentoring hour. The purpose of this reading session was to enhance reading fluency, build confidence, and allow mentees to explore and express their individual reading styles. Interestingly, the idea for this activity was proposed by one of our mentees, Muskan Rai from Class XI Commerce, showcasing student initiative and involvement in the mentoring process.
Each mentee was given one and a half minutes to read an article of their choice. This approach ensured that every mentee got an equal opportunity to participate, observe their own reading habits, and receive peer encouragement. The variety of articles chosen reflected the diverse interests of the students, ranging from current affairs to reflective essays and traditional folktales.
Notably, some mentees selected rare Dzongkha articles and read them with accurate pronunciation and confidence. This was commendable and demonstrated their strong grasp of the national language. However, it was observed that compared to English, fewer mentees opted to read in Dzongkha. This suggests a need to encourage more balanced exposure and confidence in reading both languages.
Overall, most students read well, and their performance met expectations. Nevertheless, a few mentees struggled with fluency and pronunciation, indicating the need for additional support and regular reading practice. As their mentor, I have noted their progress and will include detailed feedback and suggestions for improvement in the upcoming progress letter.
This reading session was not only an engaging activity but also a valuable opportunity for me as a mentor to better understand the strengths and areas for growth among my mentees. It fostered a sense of openness and active participation, reinforcing the importance of continuous support and encouragement in their academic and personal development.
