Being an early years teacher, when I got an opportunity to be a mentor for a grade 5 exhibition it got me very excited. It was going to be a great learning journey. Right from the start Vivaan was very focused and ready to lead the Inquiry process the PYP way. Together we came up with the central idea and the lines of Inquiry for his topic about Myths and Beliefs. Being a mentor, my role was to help him find and connect with resources, conduct research and organise ideas, and find the best ways to present his findings to our community. We met once a week and every meeting included an update on his progress, reflection on the goals we set, self-reflection on the approaches to learning skills and any questions/concerns/ideas he wanted to discuss. Taking action is the most prominent part of the entire exhibition process. After reading up from various resources, taking interviews and conducting google polls Vivaan is going to be a responsible citizen and will continue with his belief in god and further take action by reading mythological stories to children so they become aware about the myths.Mentoring was a rewarding experience for me as I learnT so much about PYP exhibition and Vivaan was able to articulate his understanding and transcend his thoughts to the community in an effective and engrossing way.
