Here we present the event at Sweden during april 22 to april 25 in 2024.
The day started with the partners coming to the Mother Tongue Teaching Unit where everyone introduced themselves and saw a video where all the languages from the unit are presented with the help of the mother tongue teachers.
The partners got a presentation regarding what mother tongue teaching is and what are the requirements to be able to participate in it. They also got a presentation about what study guidance is and how the Unit works with it. Since nothing like mother tongue education and study guidance exists in Italy and Turkey it was very interesting to get their perspectives on what we do.
In the afternoon we went to the City Hall where the partners got to meet the Head of Student and Children Support Department Birgitta Lundskog and Head of Education Lennart Olsson. They had a presentation about the Educational Department in the city.
We also got a short meeting with the mayor of Trollhättan, Peter Eriksson who underlined how important it is to have a mother tongue education and how having a good basis of your mother tongue helps you learn your second language.
Tuesday 23/4
Two partners were grouped together with a mother tongue teacher and got to job shadow them.
The mother tongue lessons the partners got to take part in were Somali, Arabic, Romani, Turkish and Urdu.
After the day the partners got a set of question that they had to answer in preparation of the presentations they would create tomorrow to share their experience.
Wednesday 24/4
The day started with the partners preparing for the presentations about the previous day’s job shadowing by using the questions given to them the previous day. The partners made the presentations in collaboration with the mother tongue teacher they job shadowed.
After an international lunch that was prepared by all the mother tongue teachers and study guidance supervisors the Italian and Turkish partners presented their organisations and schools to the Swedish hosts.
Thursday 25/4
The day centered around getting to know more about Trollhättan and the work that is done in the city. From the industries that have shaped it to the other educational facilities that are in the city.
The day started at Innovatum Science Center. The part of Innovatum we got to visit was the educational part. There the staff’s aim is to inspire children and young people to find a passion for science and technology. After, we went over to the Saab Car Museum that is just door to door with Innovatum.
In the afternoon we visited Välkomsten. Välkomsten is a school for newly arrived students that is currently located in Skoftebyskolan. Välkomsten works with all the newly arrived students that come to Sweden and their operation is aimed at those students that go to grades 1 to 9. Children come to Välkomsten before they are placed at any school. Part of it is to integrate them and introduce them to Swedish society but also to give them all an equal start, which is something they would not get if they were to be placed immediately in schools from the start. The children spend 8 weeks at Välkomsten before they are placed at a home school.
