Escola Secundária de Santo André - Barreiro

Agrupamento de Escolas de Santo André (AESA) is a big, diverse and multicultural school cluster that integrates four schools:

1) JI Bairro 25 de Abril, pre-primary school (ages 4/5)

2) EB1/JI Telha Nova, pre-primary and primary level (ages 4-9)

3) EB 2+3 da Quinta da Lomba, elementary and lower secondary level (ages 10-14)

4) Escola Secundária de Santo André, secondary level and professional/vocational courses (ages 15-18).

This institution has approximately 2300 students, most of them living nearby. In the last years, there have been students coming from other countries, such as African countries where Portuguese is the official language and also from Brasil, China, Moldova, Ukraine, Romania and other parts of the globe. This multicultural scenario makes it necessary for our students and teachers to be aware of the existence of different customs and traditions.

Therefor, our institution educative project motto is "We & others in a world of change" (Eu e os outros, num mundo em mudança)

Apart from the ethnic and linguistic differences, it is the students’ social status that sometimes leads to integration difficulties of some students.
