IB PSYCHOLOGY SL - The course starts with the historical development of psychology as a science. Then moving into the IB curriculum, we start with the study of the brain, neural processes and other parts of our biology that affects our behavior. We then study how our unseen mental processes construct our understanding of reality, memory and how human behavior is affected by the group. During the final unit we study psychological disorders. The internal assessment for this class involves a replication of a well-known experiment of the student’s choosing, and the student will learn proper psychological research methodology. Students may earn college credit in this class by scoring successfully on the IB exam.
IB PSYCHOLOGY HL - After some review of the main concepts and studies from the SL year, the HL class expands on each of the 3 core perspectives (Biopsychology, Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology). Students in HL will have time working with current research in the field of Psychology in all three of the perspectives, for example the psychology of dreaming, psychology of emotion, the psychology of stress management, and Sports Psychology. The HL course also offers units on Perception as a cognitive process, Developmental Psychology and qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. As with the SL class, an experiment will be replicated as the Internal Assessment. Students may earn college credit in this class by scoring successfully on the IB exam.
