DRAWING AND PAINTING (semester)
Credits: 0.5 Art
Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Art and Design recommended
Grade Level: 9-12
This course provides an opportunity for the interested beginning and advanced student to develop further skills and techniques in both drawing and painting experimenting with a wide variety of media which may include, pastel, acrylics, charcoal, colored pencils, watercolors and mixed media. Creative growth and a high level of skill are emphasized, with all students required to be self-motivated and capable of working independently. Weekly sketchbook drawings outside of class are required. Students will be evaluated on participation, sketchbooks, projects, and critiques. Portfolios and sketchbooks will be used and required.
DRAWING AND PAINTING 2 (semester)
Credits: 0.5 Art
Grade Level: 10-12
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Drawing and Painting 1
This class is designed for the serious art student who wishes to continue with art beyond high school. While fulfilling the Arts credit required for graduation, this course also offers a continuing art program for those committed to pursuing art beyond high school and possibly as a profession. This course stresses exploration and refinement of personal style through the development of a student portfolio. This portfolio will demonstrate creativity and technical proficiency in a variety of media including a specific concentration area chosen by each student. Weekly sketchbook drawing outside of regular class time is required. Students will be evaluated on participation, sketchbooks, projects, critiques, and a final portfolio.Â
