Book Club &

Battle of the Books

@JPSReads Book Club

Inspired by C. S. Lewis’s idea that “We read to know we are not alone,” the JP Stevens Library hosts a Book Club for students and staff. The club leaders choose themes or books and host monthly discussions after school. The club’s structure is flexible so that all club members can help plan the reading selections, meeting times, and topics.

Battle of the Books

All JPS students are invited to join!

Do you like to compete? Do you like to read? If you answered yes to either question, join JP’s BOTB! Through this national program, student teams “battle” each other and the teams of the other schools to become experts on a set of nine books such as these. Students form teams of 4 - 6 students. The team is responsible for reading each of the books. Each team member does not have to read all of the books, but that strengthens the team’s chances of winning. Books can be borrowed from our school library, the public library or purchased individually. Practice questions are made available to the teams.

Teams are responsible for practicing on their own. There are occasional after school meetings for all teams.** The school battle takes place in early spring during the school day. The top 3 teams travel to the NJ State Battle and compete against Edison High School and about nine other schools.

***For school year 2020-2021, meetings, practices, and competitions will most likely be virtual.***
