Students, beginning at age 16, who have demonstrated the readiness to begin transferring the skills learned in school, placed in a Work Based Learning (WBL) program/Structured Learning Experience (SLE) within local businesses, supported by our district staff. Sites have included JCC, Pizza Hut, ShopRite of Woodbridge, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, Edison YMCA, Edison Senior Center, Domino’s, Bed Bath & Beyond, Burlington Coat Factory, Five Below, International Foods, DSW and Staples. We have established a collaborative relationship with the mayor and township office having students placed at the Edison Municipal Complex.
The JP Stevens Farm Stand Program:
This program is a collaborative effort between general education and special education across the district as well as the local surrounding Edison community. With the instruction and support of their special education teachers and support staff, special education students are taught the skills needed to operate a working farm stand, open to the public, and located on school grounds. Students apply workplace skills, including stocking, inventory, sales, register, profit/loss analysis, and interpersonal skills.
In the 2019-2020 school year, the district has worked hard to make numerous improvements to the structure of the farmstand.
Take a minute to watch the video showcasing the Grand Reopening of the JPS Farmstand held on November 1, 2019.
