The PETS Program (Prepare, Enrich, Transition, Succeed)
The PETS program is a collaboration with and implemented by the Alliance Center for Independence (ACI), with funding through a grant awarded by New Jersey DVRS (Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services).
This program uses a person-centered, positive approach to support students as they prepare for the transition to adult life and the goal of post-secondary education and/or employment. The goal of the ACI PETS program is to assist students in identifying career preferences and goals related to their interests and abilities. Activities and opportunities provided may include:
Personality/career exploration assessments to students to help identify career paths
Providing students with information about post-secondary education options
Offer college/career planning and career information to help students with their transition from high school
Educate students about job options that are in-demand in the state of New Jersey
Career activities (job shadowing, site tour, etc.)
Work based learning experiences
Students will be given access to weekly instruction including:
10-15 work readiness training group sessions. Subjects included within these sessions will include but will not be limited to:
▪ Job exploration and counseling
▪ Self-advocacy
▪ Social skills and independent living skills
▪ Counseling on opportunities for enrollment in post-secondary education programs
