Career & Vocational Readiness (CVR)

CVR provides school to work experience designed for students who have the goal to obtain skills necessary in the workplace. Using the web based Digitability program as a resource, students learn the latest digital literacy skills needed for our current tech driven workforce.

In the progression of the CVR courses, students are also exposed to and engage in a variety of simulated work tasks that may occur in a number of real world employment opportunities, preparing them for post-secondary, integrated or extended (sheltered) employment environments. The goal is to help students achieve independent employment at their highest level possible.

Retail Work: e.g. customer service, stock/inventory responsibilities, sales clerk duties, etc.

JP Stevens:

      • Hawk Mart-students are taught and help to operate the school store. Tasks here include apparel printing, cashier, inventory and general maintenance of the store.

      • JP Stevens: Building Supply Room-students manage the building supplies for staff. Tasks here include taking inventory, stocking shelves, taking and delivering teacher supply orders.

Edison High School:

  • Eagle Enterprise-Students work hard to design and create a variety of products for events, holidays, etc. "If you can imagine it, you can create it!"

  • Bianca’s Closet-students help to sort, size, organize and market donated dresses. This program provides students with free dresses during the prom season.

Office Work:

Data entry

Creating labels, etc.

Food Services: Each high school and 3 out 4 middle schools run small scale coffee shop days on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, bi-monthly). Click on this link for a video highlight of the EHS Java Lounge

Students learn and help implement each step of the process:

Skills and basic work knowledge behaviors may include:

  • Attend to the task in front of you

  • Perform the sort, assembly or packaging according to instructions

  • Ask for help when needed

  • Work steadily until task is completed
