Skill Assessments

The Objective

The Lab will create experiential assessments that allow an individual to showcase the skills they have gained on the job and in everyday life. An example might be a video presentation of an “elevator pitch” that demonstrates a job candidate's oral communication skills.

Whose perspectives will inform the assessments?

Employers

We have hosted three Employer Studio Sessions to inform assessment design. First, employers provided initial recommendations into industry-specific language and scenarios. Since then, employers have reviewed assessments and provided feedback on the assessments' strength as a hiring signal.

Learner-Earners

Service members and veterans (our learner-earners for Year 1) participated in our Earner Studio, reviewing assessments and providing feedback to inform assessment design and development.

SMEs

Various Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) are also providing assessment feedback, including assessment and learning design experts, individuals from the Lab and SOLID, and others still to be determined.

What tools are we using to build the assessments?

Talespin

XR simulations

Muzzy Lane

Chat-based simulations

(Check out the "Partners" page for more information on these assessment platforms!)

What competencies are we initially focused on?

Competencies

We are using the Talespin and Muzzy Lane platforms to design 14 scalable, interactive, immersive performance-based Skill Assessments, three at the competency level and 11 at the sub-competency level.
