Message to Parents/Caregivers:
I am excited to be back at school and look forward to welcoming your child to English class at Stratford District Secondary School!
This year my focus continues to be safety and connection. A sense of connection and belonging is the foundation for everything, including learning.
I realize for some of you that choosing to send your child back to school has been difficult. Things will still look different when they return as change is necessary to keep everyone safe. The honour system will be incredibly important. Families will need to trust one another that they are doing their symptom checks and taking the necessary steps to keep their family safe.
Minimizing the number of people students are exposed to within the school bubble is important. In our classroom we will have mini-cohorts of 3 students as physical distancing with individually spaced desks is not possible. This seating plan will not change over the course of the semester.
I expect bumps along the way, especially in the beginning as we navigate this weird reality. But I am confident that all students will have many meaningful learning opportunities in English this year! And we will begin to build positive relationships and a new school identity together—I have built in time almost daily for mental health and community-building activities.
I care deeply about the students in my class. I do my best to get to know them, but I don't know them as you do. Please let me know when there is something happening that may impact your child's learning. I want to be proactive in supporting them. If you want to reach them, please wait until lunch or after school. Non-school use of mobile devices is not permitted during class time as it interrupts their learning. If there is an emergency, please call our office and your child will be immediately notified.
We will be using Google Classroom this year. I have invited students to our class via their school email. You have the option to receive a summary of your child’s work and class announcements—please let me know if you require an invite.
A ton of information is always thrown your way at the outset of school! Please reach out should you have any questions or concerns.
