The stages of support that we offer our students at Telopea are shown below.
Stage 1: Classroom adjustments (teacher determined)
All teachers differentiate for their students, and it is expected that teachers work with students and parents to learn about how each student learns best. They then implement strategies designed to support all learners in their classrooms.
Stage 2: Student Bulletin
When a student has additional needs, or events occur that may impact on their learning, they are added to our student bulletins. These confidential bulletins are sent to all staff fortnightly and provide information on students, including specific adjustments that they need in their classrooms.
Stage 3: Adjustment agreements
For students who require additional support and more targeted adjustments, we work with them to complete an adjustment agreement. This agreement is then signed by all the student's teachers, and their parents, to agree to specific adjustments that are required for the student.
This can be short or long term, depending on the students' needs and backgrounds.
Stage 4: Individual Learning Plan (ILP)
If a student's needs are not met by an adjustment agreement, an ILP can be put in place. An ILP requires the student, parents, and teachers to put in place goals which everyone is working towards meeting. The ILP process requires all parties to attend planning and update meetings and provides more information about the strategies and supports needed for the student.
Some students are required by the directorate to have an ILP. This includes students in care arrangements and students on modified programs.
Stage 5: Modified (P) Personalised Program
Students who are accessing modified curriculum designed by their teachers to meet their learning needs may be assessed by an Australian Curriculum Achievement Standard Year Level below their peers. This ability to be assessed at the appropriate level can give a stronger indication of individual growth, provide appropriate challenge, and can allow your child to see personal success in some or all of their subjects, dependant on their needs.
