Background to the Individuals and Societies (Humanities) Curriculum
The Individuals and Societies (Humanities) curriculum is in line with the Australian Curriculum and the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme curriculum framework.
Individuals and Societies objectives encourage students to understand the world around them.
Students develop skills of research, critical analysis, and an understanding of the connections between past events, present practices in societies and the natural world.
Students are assessed on their knowledge and understanding of concepts, and content, and on their investigative, analytical and communication skills.
Extracurricular Activities
Students have the opportunity to participate in the National Geography and National History Competitions, the National History Challenge, The Simpson Prize and The Evatt Competition.
Students’ learning may also be enriched by Geography field trips and excursions to the War Memorial, Galleries, Legislative Assembly, the National Museum of Australia or the National Museum of Democracy at Old Parliament House.
