Qualifications
Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways (FSK)
This course is run through the Registered Training Organisation Tallebudgera Training Services and is delivered onsite by Canberra High School teachers over 1 semester through the iSucceed elective.
This Certificate II is run at a cost of $300 per student.
At the completion of this qualification, students will have completed 14 units of competency including:
Module 1: Workplace health and safety
Module 2: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples' Cultural Practices
Module 3: Working with numbers
Module 4: Career planning
Module 5: Digital technologies
This course supports young people wanting to move into a career pathway, providing transferable workplace skills and knowledge, while building capacity for entering the work force and leading to additional vocational pathways.
Certificate II Self Awareness and Development (SAD)
This course is run through the Registered Training Organisation, Blueprint Career Development and is delivered onsite by Canberra High School teachers over Semester 2 through the iSucceed elective.
This Certificate II is run at a cost of $350 per student.
At the completion of this course, students will have completed 12 units of competency including:
Transforming thinking habits and cultivating creativity
Connecting and communicating with others
Developing empowering beliefs and habits
Making informed choices to overcome obstacles
Dealing with fears and challenges
Creating a personal vision, goals and opportunities
Balancing roles and managing time and energy
This course supports young people to reach their full potential through self-awareness, using this understanding to better prepare for success. Students may be surprised, challenged or occasionally confronted as they conduct a deep dive into their personal beliefs, behaviours and attitudes and apply a growth mindset toward future pathways.
Certificate II in Conservation and Ecosystem Management (AHC)
This course is run through the Registered Training Organisation Tallebudgera Training Services and is delivered onsite by Canberra High School teachers. While it is run over 1 semester, some students may take a full year to complete the qualification.
This Certificate II is run at a cost of $350 per student.
At completion of this course students will have completed 15 units of competency. Students who have also completed the Certificate II Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways will receive credit for two of these competencies.
Students will focus on three main project areas:
Natural area restoration focusing on ecosystem management processes
Maintaining cultural places which focuses on On Country Management practices and heritage protection
Maintaining wildlife habitat refuges
Students participating in this course may have a keen interest in learning more about the country we live on and how to support the natural flora and fauna of the region. At completion of the course, students would qualify for positions such as landcare worker, farm manager, week controller, plant nursery worker, forest worker, animal carer or park ranger.
Students also have the opportunity to go onto further study such as the Certificate III and Certificate IV, diploma and bachelor's degree, leading to occupations such as; gardener, landscaper, indigenous ranger, cartographer, aquaculture technician, toxicologist, geologist, botanist or landscape architect.
Work Skills
This course, while not a qualification, will support young people in ensuring they are set up for success when engaging in pathway planning.
This semester of course work focuses on resume building, career planning and involves other important aspects of moving into the workplace such as understanding your pay slip, applying for your tax file number and structuring workplace communications.
Students who engage in this course may also book a session with the WEX coordinator to discuss placement options.
This course will count as a HASS elective.
