Geography Fieldwork
Geography Fieldwork is a new HaSS elective being offered in 2025! Fieldwork is a huge part of Geography and allows you to have first-hand experiences exploring and collecting data in different types of environments.
In this unit, we will learn about the different types of landscapes and environments around us and venture out into local landscapes to study the natural and human-made features in Canberra. We'll learn about the different ways humans use and value land, the impact of human activities on our environment and different approaches to managing environments (including Aboriginal land management practices).
We will also learn about different tools we can use to collect data (e.g. surveys, water testing, field-sketching) and the best ways to collect and represent this data.
Fieldwork will include data collection at school as well as at least one external site. Potential sites for fieldwork excursions may include the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, National Arboretum, Mulligans Flat Wildlife Sanctuary, Belconnen Oval Wetlands, Belconnen Town Centre, Lake Gininderra etc.
This subject would suit students who have an interest in the environment, sustainability, geography, science, or statistics.
