ROBOTICS
This unit introduces students to the exciting world of robotics and electronic engineering. Students will learn basic robotics knowledge and apply this in order to design, build and program their own 'VEX IQ Robotics' robot. During this course students will learn about Robotics Engineering. Students will improve their teamwork, analytical and problem-solving skills through trial and error, and undertake hands-on learning experiences. Students will be encouraged to participate in robotics challenges within and outside of the school community. Students will learn about individual electrical components through to the skills in soldering and constructing electrical circuits. Students use a project-based approach to their learning by working in small groups to complete increasingly complex circuit designs.
iSTEM(Integrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
This unit utilises a practical integrated approach with Engineering and Technology concepts being used to drive interest in Science and Mathematics, through the development of technical skills and mechanical engineering knowledge. i-STEM is a hands-on, inquiry-based course in which there are many points at which students raise and explore ideas. This course will show students how scientific methods can be applied to everyday life. Students will learn computational thinking and focus on the real-world applications of problem solving. Students will learn to use a range of tools, techniques and processes, in order to develop solutions to a wide variety of problems related to their present and future needs and aspirations.
Design Technology
This unit provides the opportunity for students to use the design process to investigate, design, make and appraise projects throughout the semester. Students will use 3D software to create and present their projects while learning about different materials and their properties. Working prototypes will then be constructed using a variety of tools and materials, including 3D printing.
