Improve your skills in using the mediums of paint, charcoal or oil pastel. Additionally, apply some of the techniques used in Aboriginal art to create unique aesthetics and infuse meaning into your work. Finally, introduce yourself to European painting movements that challenged the conventions of their era while forming new cultural groups that asserted conventions of their own.
A fun and engaging class for students interested in photography. Projects include taking photos, photobook making and darkroom work along with a variety of other multimedia productions. Finished projects are often shown a school assemblies and entered in competitions.

Students are encouraged to enter competitions. Year 8 Art and Media Art classes usually enter the Art in Butt Out competition each year. This competition is sponsored by the ACT AMA and students are challenged to create an ad that promotes an anti-smoking message. Canberra High has won the competition on many occasions since 2013.
