General Troubleshooting Steps

Most laptop issues, including issues with Internet or Wi-Fi, laptop performance, the keyboard, and more can be resolved with a hard reboot of your laptop.

  1. Unplug your charger if it is plugged in.

  2. Hold down the power button on your laptop for about 30 seconds.

  3. Wait an additional 30 seconds. This should perform a "hard reset" of the hardware on your computer.

  4. Plug your computer back in, turn it on, and sign in. If you were having internet issues, make sure your Wi-Fi network and Global Protect connect.

Internet

Please try these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Ensure airplane mode is off

  2. Disconnect from your home WiFi network. Right click on the network name and select forget. Skip this step if you do not know your WiFi network password

  3. Restart the computer

  4. Sign back in to your account

  5. Enter the password for your home WiFi

  6. Find the Global Protect icon near the time and click connect if it didn't automatically connect

  7. Wait 1-2 minutes for Global Protect to connect

  8. If you are still having issues, please continue to the steps below:

Captive Portal Detected

If you receive a message that says "Captive Portal Detected," follow these steps:

  1. Ensure you are still connected to the network

  2. Open Google Chrome, then go to gstatic.com/generate_204

  3. This should force the Captive Portal sign in to appear, so you can sign in to the network.

  4. If this is a public network, be sure to read any terms/conditions and consult your parent or guardian before connecting.

Charging and Power

Please try these troubleshooting steps:

Computer Time

Please do not let your computer’s battery reach 0%. If you can still access all your classwork and ebooks, there is no need to resolve this issue. If this issue is preventing you from accessing your materials, please contact the tech office.
