The Rube Goldberg Contest is an annual engineering competition to see who can find the craziest, most complicated way to do a simple task. A new task is announced every year. Fieldston usually has several team of high school students who build their own contraptions and compete regionally and nationally. The winners of regional competitions fly to Purdue University to participate in the World Rube Goldberg Competition.
This all happens at Fieldston in the spring of each year during the Engineering Extravaganza: a day filled with fun engineering-related things to see and do. Build a model tower, a boat, or a car, participate in challenges, get your STEM Passport, drive a remote control robot, and check out student engineering projects.
...Will take place in the Fieldston Varsity Gym on Sunday, April 19, 2026 from 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm!
There will be food, friends, fun, challenges, and contraptions galore. No tickets, admission, or advance planning needed. Just show up for some or all of the event!
This year's Rube Goldberg Challenge is to open a box.
