Building upon foundational knowledge from previous engineering courses, students will undertake substantial and personally meaningful independent research projects using the engineering design process. Whether developing a novel prosthetic device, designing a sustainable building system, or creating an innovative robotics solution, students will experience the complete journey from problem identification to prototype development.
Parallel to their hands-on work, students will engage with a diverse array of engineering professionals through guest lectures, site visits and other interactions, gaining a valuable perspective on various engineering disciplines and career paths.
Topics will vary by year and students will engage in a full-cycle engineering design process from ideation through research, the creation of prototypes, iteration and final product. There will also be several opportunities to present their work to the class and the broader Fieldston community.
