We offer opportunities for students at all our area high schools, whether they already have part-time jobs or are seeking work-based experiences. Our Work-Based Learning Internship Program provides multiple options for businesses and students in the 11th and 12th grades. Please review the requirements below, and we look forward to collaborating with our students, schools, and community partners to create a valuable bridge between education and career development. We also support our partnership programs with the Mayor's Office, Big Buddy, EmployBR, BRAC, & ExxonMobil.
All student interns must apply through the Workforce Development Department and meet all required guidelines on the application form.
Seniors and students with Industry-Based Credentials are prioritized for business matching
Programs run during the Summer and Fall/Spring
Summer programs allow us to offer transportation to students who need it
Fall/Spring programs are screened by Workforce but ran by the school site Internship teacher
Schools that do not have large populations are supported by Itinerate Internship teachers through Workforce Development
Students are expected to participate in the "Learn" component through a 27-hours curriculum provided by Defined Careers
Students are expected to work 106.2-155 hours and will earn an hourly wage or a stipend

Criteria for the Internship Program:
Students must have 11th or 12th grade status
Students will apply through a portal and be placed in classes based on job-status, business partnership availability, and Industry Based Credential obtainments Click Here
Have a valid Social Security Card and a valid State Issued ID
Must be able to complete an application of employment
Be on track for graduation
Must have a good attendance record
Must have a good discipline record
Must ensure that extracurricular activities do not interfere with your internship schedule
Be willing to submit to a background check and fingerprinting performed by the Louisiana State Police if required by company
Be willing to submit to a drug screen if required by company
Students will be enrolled in the appropriate internship course code at their home-school site and during summer school
Have transportation* to and from work during the academic school year internship program

*Transportation will be provided if needed during the SUMMER internship program through our "Grow Our Own" initiative.
