Good afternoon,
This week, the children have worked brilliantly and shown great enthusiasm in all their learning. They thoroughly enjoyed creating their own adapted superhero stories, using their imagination and developing their writing skills with confidence. We are incredibly proud of our Year 1 children for the positive attitude and determination they showed during their Phonics Screening Check. They have worked hard all year and should be very proud of themselves. In Science, we explored the diets of different animals, learning about herbivores, carnivores and omnivores, and thinking carefully about what different animals need to eat to stay healthy.
Important Dates:
Thursday - non-uniform day exchange for a bottle
Thursday after school Summer Fayre
Friday - Teacher Training Day
Changing books:
To support with reading in school we are changing the day we are sending new books home. Please can book bags and reading records be sent to school on THURSDAYS.
REMINDERS:
This half term, our PE days will be Monday and Friday.
HOMEWORK:
Next half term will see us completing the phonics screening check week commencing 8th June so any extra practise with phonics would be greatly appreciated.
Your children will bring home their reading books on Thursday. We ask that you read with your child 3x a week and write in their reading records each time you read.
The children who have read 3x, will be giving a raffle ticket to be in with a chance to win a prize.
We know reading is essential for your child/ren and we thank your support with this.
Every Friday, Year 1 will now be bringing home a phonics home learning sheet looking at sounds that we have covered throughout the week. Any extra practise would really support your children's reading journey.
Below is a list of KS1 common exceptions words. These are a list of words that the children need to be able to read and write - although this isn't homework as such, it may be useful to practice these at home. Across Key Stage 1 we are working really hard to improve spelling and handwriting so any support with this at home would be greatly appreciated.
Any questions, please come and ask us.
Thank you for your continued support,
Team KS1
